Well, Melbourne isn't immune to the kind of stupidities that you probably experience at the hands of your public 'servants'. Whitehorse council in Melbourne have decided, in their obvious wisdom, that Christmas, being a Christian inspired festival, would offend some sectors of their thriving multicultural community. They produced a monthly/quarterly circular recently that overlapped the Christmas period.

Rather than offend their constituents with the socially exclusive terminology "Happy Christmas", they decided to offend them with politically correct language instead. They decided to wish everyone a "Happy Summer". If you can shed some light on this particular piece of enlightened legislation - please come forward.

I don't want you to think that this blog is a haven for grumpy old men who want to preserve the last vestiges of an older, more innocent, and much more racist world. I think that for Whitehorse Council to be properly inclusive they should wish people "Happy Christmas" in December, "Happy Diwali" in November, "Happy Chinese New Year" in February and happy whatever whenever it comes up. That's inclusive. Trying to brush people's cultural heritage under the rug is just insulting.

Heritage is something to be prized and nurtured, not treated like an embarrassing wart on the face of a nation. So, next time you offer someone the Season's Greetings, you might try being a bit more specific.

Ho Ho Ho? About 20 million miles away from the fleshpots of America. Yet it seems that we are culturally tied so closely to those aforementioned fleshpots that there is a danger that people here might mistakenly think that the jolly, rotund, red faced gent is describing them by the American vernacular 'ho. An easy mistake to make, these days, when the traditional figures of yesteryear are all seen out on the street corners taking crack and gunning down competitors at the malls.

What moron decided that the average man in the street (or child for that matter) doesn't understand the meaning of Santa's jolly old 'Ho Ho Ho'? Do they think that We are the ones who need helping?

If you can shed some light on this particular piece of enlightened legislation - please come forward.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pclunacy.blogspot.com/2007/12/ho-ho-ho-ha-ha-ha.html' title='Ho Ho Ho?
